Dr. Mercy Olmstead
I am a stone fruit extension specialist and assistant professor in the Horticultural Sciences Department. Although I am from the Detroit area, I grew up gardening and that translated to a love of growing fruit. I went to Washington State University to do a Masters’ degree in viticulture (growing grapes), and then to Michigan State to do a Ph.D. in cherry rootstock physiology. Here in Florida, I work with the potential and existing peach growers to establish and maintain successful peach orchard operations, and also with the small wine grape industry to build our industry of over 30 wineries and expand.
